Points to consider when choosing a cemetery headstone
Headstones are made in a wide variety of sizes and shapes. They are made from granite, a very hard, durable stone that keeps its polish. Granite comes in a variety of colours with Black being the most popular (see colour options). Public Cemeteries will specify the type and size of cemetery headstone that may be used in a particular area such as an Upright or Recumbent area (see photo gallery). The cost of a headstone varies widely, depending on size, style and colour? Headstone prices range from as little as $350 for a plaque up to as much as you would like to spend, an average price for a finished grave headstone would be around $3,000. Headstone Layouts & Proofs
Once a headstone has been chosen, Aro Memorials will, from the notes you supply us, provide you with a scale drawing of the headstone, with your wording and chosen artwork shown on it. This layout will be sent to you for checking. You are encouraged to read it very carefully, make any changes and return it to us for updating. Once all of the details are correct, we ask you to sign the drawing and that is then the proof for cutting the details into the headstone. A large library of artwork is available for adding to your headstone design - we also like to create new artwork so feel free to discuss what you have in mind. Headstone Photo Ceramics
With modern technology it is possible to do a number of things to help create a ceramic photograph for a headstone or cemetery memorial. If the best photograph you have has the person in a group of people they can be extracted from the group and a new background can be provided. If the image is to be of two people they do not need to be together in the original photograph. If the photograph is black and white, it can be coloured. There are a variety of sizes and shapes available all with a lifetime guarantee. A photo on a headstone is a very personalised way to remember a loved one.

Aro Memorials install headstones in Auckland and beyond. Please enquire as to costs that may be involved out of Auckland. Public cemeteries require a permit before the installation of a headstone is allowed. Permits can vary in cost from $0 to $225.
